Athem
New band is coming to town, and it is bringing it's very unique sound to the metal stage.
From Elmer, New Jersey's Extreme Progressive Metal band Athem presenting their first debut album "The Extended Mind".
This band really shows a lot of potential in the creation of very unique sound, which is a mixture of classical rock, experimental and progressive metal expressions.
Very well balanced and some complicated compositions that often live a mark of memory for a long time, and the most important the need to listen it again and again.
In 2005 the band released a demo entitled Six Days Until Sunset but at the time musicians were still trying to find their own sound and four years later in March 2009 with the support of Reverse Sphere Promotions the band released their official debut album "The Extended Mind".
The album contains nine tracks bringing very fresh and surprisingly pleasant sound with very brave beginning of the first track "Overture" with very soft classical elements which continue with smooth transition nicely in to the second one " Fallen God", aggressive and pure progressive metal elements.
Continuing with "Away" caring it melodic and memorable parts to live you wondering of what comes next. Immediately followed by "Prince of Lies" were the crunch of the guitars is greatly increased and if it is not the keyboard on the background it could turn the song to almost extreme metal. "Wake Up Screaming" slows down little bit the paste but stile the progressive sound is just all over and continues to the end of the album.
Just great album taking the progressive metal to completely new dimension of sound and extremely well execution by all of members of Athem.
Musicians of the band consists of Will Shaw on vocals, Shawn Baldissero on guitar, Louis Vasile on guitar, Mike Hass on bass guitar, and Alex Gonzalez on drums.
